He wanted to go to the sports fields outside the permitted hours and, when the officer said no, the inmate attacked him with headbutts, kicks and punches . It happened in Uta prison , where the police intervened to rescue their colleague and restore order within the section. A few weeks ago the same inmate had tried to escape from the court by attacking another officer.

This was made known by the general secretary of the UilPa Penitentiary Police of Sardinia Michele Cireddu who adds: «Just a few days ago, during the visit to the institutes of Sassari and Nuoro, we addressed the phenomenon of attacks against policemen with the undersecretary of Justice Delmastro . If the Government believes it can stop the phenomenon of aggression by transferring prisoners from one institution to another, therefore by moving the problem or with the intervention protocol created by the Department, which is practically unachievable, we are in high seas. We immediately need protection tools and means to safely counter attacks to avoid physical damage to staff and prisoners themselves, all the other vaunted interventions are only palliatives which, especially in this electoral period for Sardinia, are described as the panacea of all evils."

As Cireddu explains, inside the Uta prison «there is a very dangerous concentration of troublesome inmates who are literally setting the prison on fire , making the working conditions of the staff impossible and effectively creating an additional sentence for the rest of the inmates too who would just like to pay off their debt to justice in a peaceful manner. Unfortunately, the penitentiary system is in total disrepair and the Institute is the emblem of this."
