The drought bites and closes the taps. Drinking water further rationed in Urzulei from Wednesday. Instead of interrupting the supply at 10pm, as happened in the last month, the service will be suspended two hours early. Provision that will remain in force until the critical situation is overcome.

«The measure was adopted following the continuation of the drought period. The water resource that can be drawn from municipal sources appears to be continually decreasing and therefore in order to avoid sudden and unplanned service interruptions it is necessary to anticipate the water interruption". The rain is long in coming and would be the only solution to return to normality: «Should there be an increase in the available flow rate, we will reduce the hours of interruption of service», warned the Municipality.

In Ogliastra, Lanusei, Loceri and Tertenia (outside the Abbanoa consortium) also have rationed drinking water. In one year, from 31 January 2023 to the same day in 2024, the Bau Muggeris dam suffered a 40 percent decline. On the last day of last month the Villagrande structural container, built in 1949, held 15.04 million cubic meters of water compared to 56.62 million, which is the authorized regulation volume. A year ago it contained 25.17 million. The level of the reservoir was voluntarily reduced, in agreement with the competent offices of the Region, by Enel Green Power to facilitate maintenance work on the production plants which "will not be completed before next April".
