Tractors burned, highway 131 closed for hours, and homes threatened by flames: another hellish day in Sardinia.
Villacidro, Birori, Ozieri, and Jerzu: Dozens of workers and volunteers are on the ground to put out yet another blaze, with helicopters and Canadairs in the air.Farm vehicles engulfed in flames, a stretch of State Road 131 closed in both directions for hours, and the fear of losing their homes. Reports of another day of wildfires in Sardinia: of the 14 that struck the region, four required the intervention of regional and national air forces.
Ozieri: The Sassari Fire Department, along with teams from the Forestry and Environmental Protection Corps, Forestas, and volunteers, worked for hours on a large fire that broke out after 2:00 p.m. on the southern outskirts of the city, in the Monte Ini area, toward Nughedu San Nicolò. Extensive damage, including three burned cars, was reported to the many farms affected by the blaze. Two Canadair aircraft from the state fleet and two regional helicopters were also on site.
Villacidro: A new fire has broken out on land near the municipal motocross track, a short distance from the scenic Sa Spendula area, less than a kilometer as the crow flies from the blaze that had already alarmed residents this afternoon. The new fire affected a barn and several farm vehicles, which were completely engulfed in flames. A nearby home was threatened by the blaze, leaving the owner visibly shocked. The Sanluri firefighters, along with volunteers and Barracelli firefighters, who had already been fighting the blaze earlier this afternoon, responded to the scene. A short circuit may have caused the fire.
Birori: A serious fire near State Road 131. The flames sent up a huge cloud of black smoke, temporarily closing a section of State Road 131 in both directions. Firefighters from Macomer, forestry officers, forestry officers, ANAS personnel, and volunteers, along with three helicopters from the regional fleet, responded. A farm, grazed by the flames, is at risk.
Jerzu : Costa Arisso. Staff from the Jerzu and Osini Forestry Corps stations responded to a fire, assisted by personnel aboard a helicopter from the CFVA base in San Cosimo. Five teams from the Forestas Agency in Jerzu, Tertenia, and Ulassai were also at work.
