Late yesterday afternoon he was struck by a sudden illness while he was at work in Cardedu. His conditions, however, seemed reassuring during the rescue operations, so much so that he even made a sign to the friends who assisted in the operations.
But this morning the heart of Maurizio Mulas, 57, from Tortolì, stopped beating. In the hours before, he had undergone surgery at the Brotzu hospital, but a subsequent vascular complication proved fatal.
A bolt from the blue. Mulas, a computer technician by profession, was a well-known person in the Ogliastra football scene: he was a goalkeeping coach. During the last season he was part of the Lanusei technical staff, together with coach Alberto Piras and assistant Enrico Cuccu, winner of the Promozione championship.
In previous seasons, Maurizio Mulas, passionate about sailing and surfing, had also worked for a long time in Tortolì, a team for which he was a great fan and in whose ranks he had made his debut in Eccellenza replacing Giovanni Romita. In that season he was in the squad as third goalkeeper. In his amateur career he also won a Third Category championship with Arbatax.
