Breakthrough in the investigation into the damage to the Santa Barbara cave which occurred last autumn . Precisely on November 13, when from the site, one of the most important in terms of tourism in the Iglesiente and in the whole of Sardinia (it is one of the oldest caves in Europe) some samples of a particular mineral, barite tabularia, had been removed brown flakes.

After months of intense investigations, the carabinieri, analyzing the video surveillance images and carrying out other investigations, finally managed to trace the alleged perpetrator: he is a 44-year-old worker from Dolianova , already known to the police.

At the disposal of the Cagliari prosecutor's office, the military, with the help of colleagues from the Cagliari Cultural Heritage Protection Unit, carried out a search of the man's home, finding not only the samples stolen from Santa Barbara, but also much other material ancient and precious . In detail: 283 minerals of different nature , from karst environments not yet identified (with a notebook containing handwritten notes relating to the sale of minerals). And then: a binder containing 26 coins dating back to Roman and medieval times , two fragmented ancient amphorae, two necks of ancient amphorae containing marine concretions , two circular stone artifacts with a central hole (mace head), 16 fragments of ancient ceramic artifacts , 65 fossils , two ancient millstones.

All the material has been seized and will be kept in the vault of the special department of the Arma, pending the determinations of the judicial authority.
