The new Trenitalia Swing train, already in service in the other parts of the island, also enters service between the stations of Sassari and Olbia.

The novelty was presented at Sassari station by the director of regional transport in Sardinia for Trenitalia, Luca Zuccalà, Maria Annunziata Giaconia, director of regional business and intermodal development for Trenitalia, and Antonio Moro, councilor for transport, in the presence of the mayor of Sassari, Nanni Campus.

The new vehicle, as Zuccalà and Moro have specified, will not, however, shorten the travel times of the Sassari-Olbia route: «Today the Swing trains are also entering service in northern Sardinia which, with the arrival of the Blues, will return within the next Sardinia's train fleet is the youngest in Italy every year. The issue of travel times remains", said the regional councilor. «We are in the process of replacing the entire fleet. We have another 5 trains to deliver - Zuccalà specified - The electrification work on the railway network will begin in 2024 and will be completed in two years. The first line to come into operation will be the Cagliari-Oristano line." As for the Swing train, the vehicle is made up of 3 carriages, is equipped with two diesel engines and can reach a maximum speed of 130 km/h.

Designed according to new standards of comfort, safety and accessibility, it has 161 seats, two of which are dedicated to people with reduced mobility and also has 4 bike rack spaces.

The entrance to the carriages "level" with the pavement makes it easier for passengers to get on, while the retractable platforms allow easy access even for people with reduced mobility.

There are two toilets, one dedicated to people with reduced mobility. Internal and external cameras guarantee both the control of the entry and exit phases of travelers and the video surveillance on board.
