The shadow of arson over the Serramanna fire: "Criminals, we will catch you and make you suffer."
Mayor Gabriele Littera: "Fires broke out in multiple locations, consistently in the same way on windy days: we risked the city center burning down as well."Video di Maurizio Olandi
There's no hard evidence. But if two pieces of evidence make one, in Serramanna it's (almost) certain that the fire that sparked fear on Friday was arson. Mayor Gabriele Littera is convinced of this: "It's a situation that often repeats itself, same spots, same windy days." And the fire starts.
Whoever started the fire "at various points along the Mannu River on a day of strong winds , causing extensive damage to structures, vehicles, and public and private equipment, ruining businesses and families, and resulting in the death or injury of animals , is a criminal and as such must be found and punished without compromise. This is what we hope for and, above all, what we deserve. Those who burn our land must suffer," says the mayor, emphasizing that there was a risk that "the city center would also burn. We were really close." And it wasn't just thanks to the enormous efforts of those on the ground. "The best thing to emphasize is that we had no injuries or casualties among the population or workers."
The community is ready to unite to "support businesses and families. We will help each other and get back on our feet. We will do it together, with determination but also with a smile."
We emerge from Black Friday shaken but very determined to take up the challenge facing criminals. We want to find you. And our commitment is to further strengthen all our organizations, make additional resources and tools available, and be even more vigilant so that criminals don't have an easy life and citizens can feel safer.
