After the birth of two young in 2020 and three others in 2021, this year the osprey has regained possession of its nest in Capo Caccia. This was announced by the Park Authority which monitors the presence of species that have not nested in Sardinia for at least half a century. From this year, the monitoring by the Park technicians and the professionals appointed by the same will take place even more punctually or better "h24" thanks to the installation of a special camera that will observe all the activity on the nest of the pair of hawks. whose young had taken off in early July last year.
An initiative realized thanks to a grant from the metropolitan network dedicated to environmental monitoring of the wet area of Calich where the osprey is a frequent visitor and which it uses as an elective feeding site. The Tuscan parks, the national parks of the Tuscan Archipelago and the regional parks of Maremma and Migliarino San Rossore collaborate in the “osprey” project, which for years have been involved in increasing the osprey nesting area in the peninsula. The main environmental associations and in particular Lipu also participate in the initiative.
Given the extraordinary event that took place in Sardinia, the Tuscan parks asked the Porto Conte Regional Park and the Asinara National Park to become part of a project of international importance that aims to favor and extend the falcon's nesting area fisherman. The project foresees a time horizon of activity of three years during which, in collaboration with the ISPRA Regional Department of the Environment, various activities will be implemented including monitoring, gps positioning and positioning, positioning of cameras for reproductive monitoring and creation of artificial nests.
