With the planting of 400 plants in the Santa Barbara area, in Scano di Montiferro, the first phase of the "Water against fire" project begins, designed to contribute to the rebirth of the Montiferru ecosystem, devastated by the fire 2021.
The fire affected about 20,000 hectares of woods, olive groves and pastures, destroying over 13,000.
The project, which sees the participation of the Abbi and Azzero CO2 group and the Smeraldina group, provides for the planting of 4,200 endemic plants by the end of 2023 which will restore the typical biodiversity of the area.
«The action – explains the mayor of Scano di Montiferro Antonio Flore Motzo – is part of a broader intervention to enhance the area. There will also be the reconstruction of the rural church of Santa Barbara destroyed by flames. To restore hope to communities, forest regeneration and landscape care must start from these places, a symbol of redemption for a tormented land".
