In the lungs of Gaia Mura, 14, from Villanova Truschedu, there is just a tenth of the air that is found in those of her peers. Yet when she starts singing, her voice is incredibly strong and beautiful.

"A miracle that has no scientific explanation, even its doctors are appalled," mother Patrizia tells L'Unione Sarda. Smiling, 13 years after the diagnosis that changed their lives : Ullrich's congenital muscular dystrophy.

«When Gaietta was about a year and a half I noticed that if I sat her down, she couldn't sit still, she threw herself to the right or to the left – she explains -. I could see the big difference with his brother who was six years older. So we decided to go to the pediatrician, then to the specialized treatments of the Microcitemico of Cagliari. From there the whole process of visits and analyzes ».

Then the diagnosis: a rare genetic disease of the muscles, characterized by generalized weakness, early and slowly evolving. «We contacted Dr. Marcello Villanova of the Villa Bellombra hospital in Bologna and we had a great time, we never left him».

And so Gaia, every six months, interrupts the lessons of the scientific high school of Oristano and flies to Bologna with her mother to undergo the long series of routine checks .

She is a happy little girl, despite the difficulties: «My daughter faces everything that comes with courage».

Gaia takes the floor: «Everyone here knows me, I'm now at home» . And in fact, the clinic also celebrates the talent of the girl, who for some years has discovered that she is incredibly good at singing.

«I've always had a great passion for music thanks to my grandfather – he says -. Since I was little she used to sing me Sardinian songs. I put myself to the test, and it worked." He also opened a YouTube channel: "But then I closed it," he admits. Maybe too shy. But his videos are depopulating all the same ( WATCH ).

His strong points are La notte di Arisa, Set fire to the rain by Adele, Z ombie by The Cranberries. Gaia, a little shocked by the unexpected success, hopes to reach the ears of her greatest idol, Ultimo: «I dream of dueting with him. And to go to The Voice. The judges choose the contestants without looking. I would like to be judged only for my voice and not for who I am.

Not even Dr. Villanova, the doctor who has followed her since she was in diapers, is able to explain Gaia's great ability . The rare form of genetic neuromuscular disease from which she suffers causes her to have significant chronic respiratory insufficiency. «There is a device that helps her breathe», says mother Patrizia who is forced to interrupt herself just as she is talking on the phone: «Wait, the machine is ringing».

"There are no medical explanations, it is a very rare phenomenon - he continues - Perhaps Gaia has learned to use the diaphragm very well and thus manages to have that incredible tone of voice".

Now Gaia is preparing to return to Sardinia to her friends and family. And who knows that he won't be able to make his dream come true.
