Forza Italia MP Pietro Pittalis will visit the Badu 'e Carros prison in Nuoro today, July 17, at 12 noon, where the suspended mayor of Ottana, Franco Saba, has been held for several days.

"I will travel to the Badu 'e Carros prison in Nuoro to assess his conditions. During this visit, I will meet with the mayor of Ottana to learn about the reasons for his detention and his health," the parliamentarian announced.

The visit follows the Nuoro Court's decision to increase the precautionary measure against Saba, who was transferred from house arrest to prison not for new facts related to the main investigation, but—according to the prosecution— for having repeatedly violated the imposed restrictions . In fact, magistrates have charged him with eight alleged violations, in addition to two alleged escapes. Among the most significant elements considered to be the use of his wife's phone, which Saba allegedly used to maintain contact with the outside world despite the ban. According to investigators, through those conversations he attempted to impart instructions in an effort to continue to direct the administrative activities of the Municipality of Ottana. However, according to the prosecution's reconstruction, the phone calls were not the only factor involved.

Saba is also said to have met with the municipal secretary, the priest Don Borrotzu and other political figures in his mother's home, on the floor below the one where he was under house arrest, thus continuing to maintain relations with the outside world and to operate, in fact, in the management of the institution despite the limitations imposed by the precautionary measure.

The president of the Nuoro Court clarified that the transfer to prison is in no way connected to the appointment of the new municipal council, but exclusively to the alleged violations of the precautionary measures charged to the suspect.
