A nasty experience, but no injuries were reported among the twenty tourists aboard the little green train that derailed yesterday on the Bosa-Macomer route, near Modolo . The train, consisting of a locomotive and a carriage, went off the tracks due to a collapse in the railway infrastructure , right near a level crossing where work was underway.
Fortunately, the train was traveling at low speed at the time of the accident, which prevented more serious consequences for the passengers . No one was injured, but the derailment caused a shock and abruptly ended the scenic return journey to Macomer. The twenty passengers were subsequently picked up by a replacement bus and taken to their destination, while the train remained stationary along the line , near the accident site. This morning, the train remains at the scene awaiting recovery operations and the securing of the railway line.
According to initial reports, the derailment may have been caused by a subsidence of the railway bed caused by construction work near a level crossing . Technical investigations will determine the exact causes and whether the stability of the line has been compromised. Inspection and removal operations for the derailed train will continue in the coming hours. A date for the restoration of the line has not yet been announced.
