The leaders of the Italian Space Agency were received this morning in Selargius by the mayor Gigi Concu at the ASI headquarters, the only one in the country dedicated to the study of deep space. On site the president Giorgio Saccoccia and the general manager Fabrizio Tosone and the team of municipal engineers and technicians who followed the process step by step.
"We await the ribbon cutting of this new and prestigious headquarters which - said Mayor Gigi Concu - will give prestige not only to our territory but to the whole island, and which I hope will become a world reference point capable of creating important employment repercussions ”, he comments.
"We started from what seemed a perhaps too ambitious bet, and today, three years after the first meeting with ASI on 23 February 2018, we are laying the foundations for the future development of our city, and for the new generations" . And the premises are all there, because the Sardinia Deep Space Antenna Research Center is a technological gem already only on paper.
Dark room, researchers room, laboratories, exhibition spaces, control room, offices, theme park, green area, canteen and cooking area: all studied in detail and put in black and white in the agreement signed at the end of August between the ASI and the Administration of piazza Cellarium.
Behind a millionaire investment: seven million and 700 thousand euros, to be precise.
The spotlight is on the Cuccuru Angius area, where workers are already at work, and scientists and researchers may soon arrive to carry out important research activities in the field of space, human and robotic exploration.
All concentrated in the area beyond the state road 554, formerly the seat of the National Institute of Astrophysics and destined to become a scientific pole of international importance thanks to the imminent arrival of ASI.
