It was May 23, 1992 when Judge Giovanni Falcone was killed in the mafia-style attack in Capaci. His wife Francesca Morvillo and three of his escort agents, Vito Schifani, Rocco Dicillo, Antonino Montinaro, also died with him.
33 years have passed since that date, an anniversary that keeps alive the memory of the two judges , Falcone and Borsellino, servants of the State, men who have left traces of their actions, for justice and against crime.
On the Day of Legality their image returns, close to each other, bound by duty and educational commitment, by a bitter fate that saw them die within a few months of each other. That image also appears in the sand of the Platamona beach, a tribute to two men of the State, that the artist Nicola Urru wanted to dedicate to those who represent the right, in the fight against the mafia, in the battle against crime.
An example and a reminder to do your part alongside the institutions, at every level, even as ordinary citizens. Civic engagement that overcomes indifference, involves the new generations and invites us to take responsibility for building new perspectives, free from criminal behavior.
On May 28, Fiammetta Borsellino will return to Asinara, 40 years after August 1985, when her father, Paolo, along with Giovanni Falcone, were transferred to the island for security reasons, where they remained for 25 days, poring over dozens of documents to prepare the preliminary investigation of the maxi trial against Cosa Nostra. Paolo Borsellino was killed by the mafia in the Via d'Amelio massacre on July 19, 1992.
