The 19th edition of the Girotonno warms up its engines and prepares to go on stage from 1 to 4 June in Carloforte .

There will be four days of gastronomic challenges with 6 international chefs , tastings of delicious recipes based on the prized Mediterranean bluefin tuna , great guests but also shows , entertainment and many activities dedicated to children .

The event is organized by the Municipality of Carloforte in collaboration with the Feedback agency which has been following the project since its origins.

«Our community - explained the mayor of Carloforte, Stefano Rombi - is preparing to celebrate one of the most important international gastronomic events in Sardinia and the Mediterranean . The pandemic, which has forced a stop to the demonstration in presence, is now behind us. Already from the last edition, the public was able to return to our splendid island to attend the challenges between the chefs, taste the dishes of our tradition and savor everything that Carloforte and its island can offer: the sea, the centuries-old traditions of tuna fishing red, its unique peculiarities of an island within an island, its being a piece of Sardinia, North Africa and Genoa, and the sounds of its language, tabarchino, a variant of Ligurian».

HOW TO GET THERE – Once again this year, on the occasion of the exhibition, enhanced ferry crossings from Portovesme and Calasetta and local buses. From the first trip on 31 May and until 5 June, for non-residents, a 5 euro discount on the passenger ticket price and a 10 euro discount on the car ticket price in the round-trip formula on both Carloforte/ Calasetta and Carloforte/Portovesme. The internal bus rides on the island have also been enhanced.

COOKING SHOW – The art of bluefin tuna cooking will be the star of the cooking shows. The secrets of this Mediterranean specialty will be revealed on Thursday 1 June at 6 pm by the Carloforte chef Secondo Borghero of the restaurant "Al tonno di corsa" who will present the recipe entitled "Senatore Cappelli wheat shells with fifth quarter of tuna". On Friday 2nd June at 1pm Max Mariola, the famous chef and TV personality who is the face of the Gambero Rosso Channel, arrives on stage and will let you taste tuna alla puttanesca. Saturday 3 June at 12 Nicola Rossi, executive chef of the Four Seasons in Marrakech, will prepare the tuna and hummus tartare while at 5.30 pm Pietro Parisi, the peasant cook, and Luca Puddu Buinea, the chef of two worlds, will present the recipe " From Tacca Rossa to Isola Piana”.

Sunday at 12 ends with Stefano De Gregorio, resident chef of Saporie Lab Milano, who will prepare pasta with tuna and, at 5 pm, an appointment with the cooking of the master of tuna cuisine, Luigi Pomata, and his recipe Porco tonno.

Every day the joy of the buskers' shows will invade the narrow streets of the town: from the Fenistruzzi to the Petton House, from the Mano a Mano Circus to the street art shows of Bugo in “Burro Show - Botti du Shcoggiu”. And again El Bechin in “Horror Puppets Show” or Linda Vellar in “White Hole”, but also the acrobatics of “Espera”, the puppet shows “Di Diavoli, Pentole e altri imbrogli” by and with Daniele Pettinau.

FOR THE LITTLE ONES – The Funny Village is the Girotonno area where you can find a series of activities and games for the whole family, led by Davide Musu. In Piazza Pegli inflatables, face painting, moldable balloons, workshops dedicated to the sea, but also the mascots loved by the little ones, jugglers and giant bubbles.
