"We were hoping it was an April Fool's joke, but it's yet another communications disaster." The Brothers of Italy Alghero party was scathing in its response to the concert celebrating the 40th anniversary of "Alghero," the famous song by Giuni Russo, which was cancelled after months of negotiations and sparked public controversy . The party's targets include the administration led by Mayor Raimondo Cacciotto and the Alghero Foundation.

"Who knows if this time too, for Roberto Ferrara, it was a brilliant social media stunt by President Graziano Porcu, or if he'll have the decency to admit yet another blunder," Melonian supporters attack, calling out representatives of the Five Star Movement (M5S). According to FdI, the post published on the official page linked to the artist, who died in 2004, "certifies the failure of the initiative" as well as exposing the city "to a terrible image at the national level, with accusations of broken promises, a serious damage to its image that affects all of Alghero."

Criticism focuses in particular on the handling of the negotiations. "We want to know who dragged it out for months without reaching a decision, causing a sensational breakdown," Brothers of Italy representatives asked after seeing the public post on the artist's social media page. Brothers of Italy is now calling for the establishment of a commission to clarify the use of the Alghero Foundation's resources.

THE POST – The artist's Facebook post explains: "Our initial estimate for the concert, which was supposed to take place on July 31, 2026, in Alghero, was €180,000. We later lowered it to €150,000 last September. This included, among other things: the artists' fee, travel, food, and lodging for 33 people, audio and video services, compensation for the crew, etc. After almost two months of silence, and after several reminders from us, the president of the Alghero Foundation and the Mayor of Alghero proposed a budget of €100,000. Even with all our good will, it would have been unthinkable to stage an event of that magnitude with this budget , communicated to us only a few days ago. We remind everyone that the only nice thing Alghero did for Giuni Russo was the naming of the Mirador, but this was only possible because in April 2014 the Municipality was under special administration."
