From Cagliari to the small Romanesque church on Nora beach, the place of martyrdom, with intermediate stops in Capoterra, Sarroch, Villa San Pietro and Pula. And then the same itinerary in the opposite direction, arriving at the small church of Stampace.

The Cammino di Sant'Efisio was inaugurated today, right in the church square of Stampace and in the presence of the regional tourism councilor Gianni Chessa. We go from Cagliari to Nora in the footsteps of the martyr protector of the Island, "slowly walking between beauty, identity and devotion" as the slogan of the Region's project states.

«One of the longest and most evocative processions in the Mediterranean, a special occasion to promote an itinerary that combines the spiritual and cultural dimensions in places where the devotion for the Saint most loved by Sardinians is profound».

This morning's inauguration took place as part of the “We walk in Sardinia” project, an event promoted by the Tourism Department which will take place until Saturday 7 October.

The planning process of the Cammino di Sant'Efisio started a year ago, activated by decree of the councillor, in agreement with the regional Episcopal Conference, the Diocese of Cagliari, the Archconfraternity of Sant'Efisio and with the Municipalities involved along the pilgrimage.

The bidirectional route is 80 kilometers long, but reaches 100 with a visit to the historical places of devotion to the Saint. Divided into four stages, it was born from the traditional procession which from 1st to 4th May recalls the events, dating back to the beginning of the 4th century, of the warrior saint and the dissolution of the vow made to him during the plague of 1652.

The “We walk in Sardinia” project, explains the councilor, «is part of the segment of slow and sustainable tourism, in which the paths, pilgrimage destinations and villages represent a unitary tourist proposal, aimed at integrating the now consolidated tourism seaside".

The initiative will cross more than 70 municipalities and approximately 500 people will take part, including journalists, specialized video journalists, walkers and guides. «We propose an original model to experiment and define the level of usability of spiritual paths and itineraries, so as to be able to promote them on the national and international market», concludes Chessa.
