On Easter Sunday, strong, clear and precise words come from the highest chair of the Oristano church, as perhaps never before in the cathedral of Santa Maria to awaken tired hearts and confused minds: from darkness to light. The old road to the new, the resurrection that conquers the death of a disappointed and self-absorbed people. A hard, tiring but necessary path to find the main road that leads back to life, to fair and sustainable progress for all.
The message
Father Roberto Carboni, Archbishop of Oristano and Ales-Terralba, in his usual and never predictable Easter message indicates the main road and without shortcuts that leads to the feet «of the risen Christ, the only one capable of dispersing the darkness of our daily lives». Words that lead to the goal but only after having conquered the present which, as the Archbishop underlines, «is confused and unstable, submerged by the tragic news of wars, of defenseless deaths and of destruction». Words without veils, accusatory of the arrogance supported by the weapon of the economy and profit «that trample on the rights and dignity of many to please a few».
The Darkness
It is the darkness, the obscurity that flies over and clouds even the extraordinary beauty of the Island; Father Roberto's denunciation reaches the hearts and minds of a confused and stunned people. "Even in Sardinia the sleep of politics now only screwed on itself, both at local and regional level, does not fulfill its promise to listen to citizens but seems only to save itself and its own interests". Unfulfilled promises, annulled hopes, vanished dreams. A politics that is an end in itself that a spring rain caused, after months of drought, with the words of Father Roberto restores a people who want to get going.
The wish
What can we expect from this Easter? What is the surprise that must come to us to open our hearts to a smile of hope? "For us Christians," Father Roberto recalls, "the announcement of Easter surprises us and awakens us to trust; darkness does not have the last word. The last word belongs to the light, to the intense glow that blinds the darkness of the empty tomb and sets us on the path again." Archbishop Roberto's hope "is that in our small and large darkness, the light of the Risen Christ may enter, the only one capable of facing the darkness of our daily lives, making our hearts burn and becoming, in turn, a radiance of hope."
