Taps are turned off in Domusnovas , where water cannot be used for any purpose, not even for bathing. This is what the municipal ordinance issued today by the mayor established, after analyses conducted on water samples revealed abnormal levels of turbidity and lead , the latter detected at the sampling point on Via Barracca.

The decision followed a statement from the Sulcis Iglesiente Local Health Authority (ASL) – Prevention Department – Food Hygiene and Nutrition Service, which communicated the results of the tests and the need to suspend use of the water pending further investigations.

The water crisis , however, is nothing new for residents. For weeks, the town has been dealing with a depleted water supply. To ensure a minimum supply, the municipality has also ordered the arrival of water tankers in recent days, but the situation remains under observation.

Former mayor Massimiliano Ventura also voiced citizens' frustration in a Facebook post: "Today, after twenty days of emergency, thinking is becoming difficult. I can't wash myself, I can't wash the dishes, the water in our tanks is unusable. This will continue until a new ordinance is issued, probably next week."
