Summer roadworks on Highway 195: a nightmare with no alternatives.

"It cannot be postponed," sighs Pula Mayor Walter Cabasino: the work to restore safety to the stretch of highway 195, damaged four months ago by the waves of Cyclone Harry and reopened in record time but on a provisional basis, can no longer be postponed.
In summer, up to 18,000 vehicles pass through the road connecting Cagliari with Capoterra, Sarroch, and the tourist-rich coasts of Pula, Domus de Maria, and Teulada each day: 20 percent more than the rest of the year.
With construction of the first section of the new 195 "near the home stretch" but still open, no one would have wanted to halve traffic on the coastal road right now, from June 8th until the end of July, in a crucial stretch, the one between the salt flats and the sea, by diverting one of the flows (either towards Cagliari or towards Pula) onto the alternative (but bumpy) route of the Conti-Vecchi road and the Macchiareddu consortium road, which adds about 7 kilometers to the usual route.
Apparently, however, there were no alternatives, so anyone from Cagliari who wants to spend a day at the beach in Nora, Chia or Tuerredda will have to take into account, on the outward or return journey, the risk of queues and delays even more annoying than those that are already normally recorded, especially on the return journey.
