Burcei: the children damage a door, they tell the mayor and to repay they plant flowers in the village

A story from the past, starring five children and the mayor of Burcei Simone Monni . But what happened? They were playing hide and seek at the village social center when they accidentally damaged a door . Very small damage, but enough to decide to write a letter by hand , sending it to the mayor. They told what had happened and said they were ready to fix it. The mayor held back his smile, listened and forgave, as they had asked. And they, to fix the "damage", made a collection of 5 euros each , buying flowers to plant in a public space in the town. Said, done and forgiveness assured.

The mayor wrote everything on Facebook: « Today I received a very special visit and I want to tell you what happened. A few days ago I received a handwritten and signed letter from five little Burceresi who told me that they had accidentally damaged a door of the social gathering center while they were playing hide and seek. The boys, sorry for what had happened, proposed to remedy the damage by taking care of some green spaces in the village, with flowers they bought themselves. I wrote to them that I would like to meet them in my office. Arrived at the Town Hall, I made them sit down and they showed themselves very sorry for what they had unintentionally caused ».
Mayor Monni added: « I found myself deeply touched by such a noble gesture . I told them that everyone can make mistakes but the important thing is always to recognize the mistake, admit it and try to do something to fix it. It goes without saying that they were forgiven and I asked them to always write to me and not just for some trouble , so to speak, but also to be listened to and to tell me what their dreams are with the same sincerity and with the same beauty with which are presented before me today."
Monni concludes with a small aphorism: «“Educating is like sowing: the fruit is not guaranteed and it is not immediate, but if you don't sow it is certain that there will be no harvest”. These are the small big gestures that instill hope, they are life lessons that often come from the youngest ».
