No one has forgotten the heroic gesture of Marco Casu .

This is why in a few days the postman on duty in Solarussa will receive an important recognition . Knight of the Order "Al Merito della Repubblica Italiana": this is the honor which will be awarded on 2nd June in Oristano by the postman of the Italian Post Office of the Distribution Center in via Liguria who, on 10th March last year, during the daily round of delivery, had become the protagonist of the rescue of a family of Solarussa , in whose home a fire had developed . A few months old baby was also present. «I remember that day well - says Casu -. While I was making the delivery round, I noticed smoke, much more intense than usual, from the flue at the Madau family's home. There was something abnormal . I tried to knock, without getting an answer and, seeing the half-open door, I entered».

“There was a blanket of black smoke and I immediately took the old lady and the child out – continues the postman – to make them safe. With the help of the child's mother. I threw water on the fire and then, with the help of blankets, I suffocated the fire by closing the mouth of the fireplace, managing to put it out. The firefighters did the rest, making the house safe. I am very happy to receive this recognition - concludes the employee of Poste Italiane - and I thank the institutions for having awarded me. At that moment my instinct prevailed and I'm happy that everything went well». The prestigious award will be presented by the representatives of the Prefecture of Oristano to the Poste Italiane employee , in Piazza Mariano IV, on the occasion of the celebration of the 77th anniversary of the Foundation of the Italian Republic.
