Father Gabriele Biccai, parish priest of Sinnai, has been the “provincial of the Discalced Carmelites for central Italy” for almost two years . In Sant'Isidoro, a small hamlet of Sant'Isidoro di Quartucciu, on the old Orientale sarda, there is the church where the Discalced Carmelites carry out part of their mission, within a social environment characterized by poverty, desire to do good for others. Whoever knocks on this door always finds an answer. Here Father Gabriele carries out part of his mission, managing to give everything even for a large parish like that of Sinnai.

A noble figure: Father Gabriele arrived in Sinnai just over two and a half years ago. He had been called by the Archbishop of Cagliari, Monsignor Giuseppe Baturi, to replace Don Alberto Pistolesi who died in December 2021 in a road accident at Poetto in Quartu. And as a humble but great father as he is, he also has an extraordinary love for the land, for Sardinia , he who is from Sindia.

Yesterday in Sinnai on the occasion of the feast of Saint Helena, with a small church immersed in a territory of extraordinary beauty, among centuries-old olive trees, Father Gabriele made his reflections on the wind turbines that threaten Sardinia. He did so by dedicating an entire page of the Weekly of the parish of Santa Barbara.

"Each of us must feel as our own that original vocation to be custodians of Creation, custodians of our land . Cultivate and care for the garden of the world, as Pope Francis teaches us. Cultivating means plowing or working a land. Guarding means protecting, caring for, persevering, conserving, watching over."

His words written on paper struck everyone. "It is a deception, a lie to think of "squeezing" the planet, our land to the limit and beyond all limits. Our common home must be defended from any indiscriminate and arbitrary abuse. We cannot allow the immense artistic, cultural and environmental heritage that make our Sardinia beautiful, unique and original to be stolen and disfigured."

Father Gabriele, remember that wind turbines risk covering the whole of Sardinia. Many are also planned in the territory of Sinnai and its surroundings. «In this time of vacation, of rest - adds the parish priest - let us rediscover the happy art of contemplation: let us stop to contemplate the beauty of our sea, of our landscapes and learn to say Thank you. Exploitation, as Pope Francis reminds us in "Laudato Sii", arises precisely from the inability to stop and contemplate beauty.... When one does not learn to appreciate and admire beauty, it is not strange that everything is transformed into an object of use and abuse without scruples. Let us leave this earth of ours in peace: it is beautiful as it is, as God created it. Let us learn to love it, to cherish it, to protect it. Let us live in symbiosis with it, remembering that we too are earth».

A no to energy speculation. Not to wind turbines as they are being proposed in Sardinia. In Sinnai a wind farm of fourteen wind turbines has been proposed among vineyards, archaeological sites and important environmental sites. On August 26th a City Council will be held to discuss the problem.
