Severe disruption began in the early afternoon in Sinnai and Settimo San Pietro due to a lengthy power outage, with homes transformed into ovens, refrigerators malfunctioning, and children, the elderly, disabled, and bedridden people suffering throughout the evening.
In Sinnai, service was restored in some neighborhoods after nearly two hours; however, the problem persisted significantly in the Pineta neighborhood. The cause was apparently a fault in a medium-voltage cable.
The mayors of Sinnai, Barbara Pusceddu, and Settimo San Pietro, Gigi Puddu, have contacted Enel, highlighting the inconvenience experienced by customers and their offices, and the fact that these outages in the area are becoming increasingly frequent.
"These outages," one user wrote on social media, "are becoming constant. It's not just an inconvenience; there are elderly people, children, sick people, or people with health problems who need air conditioning to stay healthy."
And then: "It's truly unacceptable that a situation like this is happening so often. We hope that those responsible will intervene as soon as possible to definitively resolve the problem and guarantee an essential service, especially on days like these."
"Dear fellow citizens, regarding the ongoing and sudden power outages affecting various areas of our municipality, I would like to inform you," wrote Sinnai Mayor Barbara Pusceddu, "that the administration is in constant contact with Enel. We are fully aware of the serious inconvenience these ongoing blackouts are causing to families, vulnerable individuals, and businesses, especially during these summer days. These problems are not limited to Sinnai but unfortunately affect many other municipalities in Sardinia and are caused by overloaded lines related to the extremely high temperatures of recent days. We have activated direct contact channels with Enel (E-Distribuzione) managers and technicians to obtain immediate clarification on the causes of these outages and, above all, urgent and permanent restoration work."
The mayor of Settimo San Pietro, Gigi Puddu: "In response to our requests, Enel has communicated that its staff is working to install generators to restore power. This work will require a wait of approximately 45-60 minutes. Today the disruption was truly severe. Disruption for everyone, for businesses, restaurants, bars, and homes: especially for children, the elderly, and the sick. At 9 p.m., much of the town was still without power. Even the streets and traffic lights were in the dark."
