He died while practicing kitesurfing, a sport he was passionate about and very expert at, while hovering above the body of water in front of the Graneri beach in La Caletta di Siniscola. Thus, Riccardo Iovino, a 58-year-old Genoese entrepreneur, well known for having founded the EdiliziaAcrobatica company, which deals with the maintenance of the external structures of skyscrapers, with the aid of support ropes, lost his life. The company also operates in Sardinia with two offices in Cagliari, one in Sassari and another which is about to open in Nuoro. In total it employs 50 workers.

The drama

The tragedy occurred in front of many kitesurfing enthusiasts who on Monday afternoon had taken advantage of the north-eastern wind that had begun to blow along the north-eastern coasts of the island. What killed him was probably an illness that caused him to fall with his entire harness into the waves. A lifeguard reached him but could only recover the body and bring it to shore. Unfortunately the surgery did not save him. The entrepreneur no longer showed any signs of life and although the 118 team also intervened immediately on the spot, there was nothing that could be done. All the maneuvers carried out to resuscitate him were ineffective and in the end the doctor who arrived on site aboard the Areus helicopter was unable to do anything but confirm his death.

Funerals in Genoa

The Carabinieri from the Siniscola company also intervened in Graneri to carry out the investigations. Once the accidental death was confirmed, the body of the famous entrepreneur was then transferred to the morgue of the Siniscola cemetery and returned to his family for burial. The coffin should leave for Genoa where the funeral will be held.

The character

Riccardo Iovino had been in Siniscola for a few days where he usually spent a holiday period every year. In addition to two boats moored in the port of La Caletta, he was the owner of a villa in Sa Petra Ruja.

On Monday afternoon, as soon as the wind picked up, he ran to Graneri to do some flips with his kitesurf. A passion that he shared with many others, so much so that on the beach there were dozens of people twirling suspended in the air. A terrible fatality cost him his life.
