Shrimp fishing, tension builds. Yesterday two Sicilian boats arrived in the port , docking at the port of Sa Perdixedda, to unload the cases of shellfish caught in international waters. Upon their arrival, however, they found the fishermen from Cagliari on a war footing, and tensions skyrocketed, so much so that even the police cars and coast guard patrols arrived on the quay.
The case is open. To complicate everything there is a legal catch that will have to be resolved. In fact, the Sardinians, due to a technical issue, cannot operate in the eight weeks following the end of the biological shutdown as indicated by the Region from Friday and throughout the weekend, while their Sicilian colleagues continue to work on the offshore benches in an absolutely legitimate way . Moreover. Sardinian fishermen - at least according to what is indicated by the Porto Torres Captaincy and evidently widespread throughout the island navy - cannot cross the territorial waters (i.e. the 12 miles) because the fishing activity is considered real from the moment that a fishing boat the dock to reach the benches.
The fact is that Sicilian boats cross the territorial waters without any limitations, and this is what sparked the anger of the locals yesterday afternoon.
The negotiation was incandescent and only at the end did the captains of the two Sicilian fishing boats decide not to land the product.
“On Tuesday - explains Renato Murgia, head of the Sardinian shipowners' association - the problem will be discussed in the Region” .
