The ban on key boxes (the “little boxes” used to deposit keys in homes rented for short periods ) and remote recognitions has also become enforceable in Cagliari and its province.
The Prefect Giuseppe Castaldo , with a circular addressed to the Mayors of the Municipalities of the Province and to the President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Agriculture and Crafts of Cagliari, has in fact implemented the recent directive issued by the Minister of the Interior.
"This limitation - explains a note from the Prefecture - applies to short-term rentals within 30 days, but also to short-term apartment exchanges at no cost and to "Marine resorts", which are considered equivalent to accommodation facilities: managers are required to identify guests".
The new rules, adds the Prefecture, «are motivated by reasons of public safety , as the Law requires that those who manage a hospitality facility are required to transmit the personal details of the people staying within 24 hours of the arrival of the people staying , or immediately after arrival in the case of a stay of less than 24 hours, to the territorially competent Police Headquarters».
The ministerial directive does not consider the characteristics of the key boxes satisfactory, as they would bypass "the phase of personal identification of guests at the time of access to the facility" and would not guarantee "verification of the correspondence of the document to its bearer" , while there is a need to protect public safety, in order to prevent criminals, wanted persons or suspects from hiding in hotel establishments.
« In all cases of short-term rentals – the Prefecture reminds – it is therefore necessary to proceed with prior personal identification using a valid identity document and subsequent communication to the competent public security authority ».
Furthermore, the note released by the office of Prefect Castaldo concludes, «these provisions also apply to zero-cost home exchanges, via the “home exchange” application, and to the so-called “Marina resorts” , structures dedicated to the stay of tourists inside boats moored in a certain space, as even in these cases there are possible risks for public safety, which require the communication to the Police Headquarters of the names of the guests».
