Bonaria Maggi, a 75-year-old woman originally from Lula but who had been living in Siniscola for some time, died after being hit by a car on July 10th on Via De Gasperi, near the Papa Giovanni XXIII retirement home in the town of Baroni.

After weeks of agony, the former nurse passed away on Wednesday at the hospital in Sassari, where she had been transferred in critical condition by air ambulance immediately after the accident.

That day, around 6:30 PM, Bonaria Maggi was crossing the street when she was hit by a car driven by a young man from Siniscola, who immediately stopped to provide assistance. The extremely violent impact threw her to the ground, causing serious injuries. The driver, in shock, tested negative for alcohol.

Carabinieri from the Siniscola branch had begun an investigation to reconstruct the exact circumstances. News of her death sparked outrage in the village and in her hometown, where she was well-known. Maggi had worked for 40 years as a nurse at Milan's Maggiore Hospital before returning to Sardinia to retire. In her final years, she had chosen to live in Siniscola.

The funeral date has not yet been announced: the body has been seized pending investigations ordered by the Prosecutor's Office, which is investigating the accident.
