Sestu, the former medical guard falls into disrepair
Abandoned for years, it risks collapsing: "Shameful degradation". The Municipality would like to have it back from the ASL, the mayor: "Negotiations underway"Per restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
A roof, four walls and a forest of weeds and prickly pears. This is the situation of the former medical guard of Sestu in via Gramsci, but something is starting to move and there could be news on the way. In the meantime, those who live or work here in the area have almost become accustomed to this situation, even if they do not cease to be indignant.
The indignation
"The thing that worries me the most is the roof, it's full of plants now. It could collapse at any moment," Pierpaolo Meloni points out; "we see it every day, it's certainly sad, this situation, right in the center and with all the work done recently to beautify the neighborhood," comments Salvatore Ferru, and Orlando Lai continues: "I remember when the medical emergency was here in the center, and Sestu was smaller, everything under the house." Many things have changed and the history of these premises is complex; in fact, they are part of a single block that also includes those overlooking Piazza Gramsci; the latter became the site of a market with garages, then after a few years of closure, the Municipality redeveloped them with the aim of hosting a senior center, not yet open, and there is the aim of restoring the square as well.
Years of abandonment
A very different fate for the medical guard; acquired by the ASL, the spaces hosted the Medical Guard until it was transferred to the polyclinic on Via Dante. Since then, abandonment. Today, visitors are welcomed by the only inhabitants of the structure, very friendly and equipped with whiskers and a tail. Over the years, in fact, a feline colony has grown here, which the residents take care of. The appearance does not promise well, there is no shortage of cracks on the walls, the roof seems unsafe, and even the garden is abandoned. Only the gate, rather decaying in the past, has been changed. The problem has also been the subject of questions in the City Council.
Uncertain future
But something could change and it was also discussed in the last meeting in the Municipality, on the situation of the Polyclinic in via Dante, with the general director of the ASL, Marcello Tidore, and the mayor Paola Secci. "The situation of these premises is well known to us and I have always been very keen to have them back", declared the mayor, "at this moment checks are underway with our technical offices and those of the ASL, for the methods of acquisition".
It is difficult to say what the future of this space could be, and the timescales are not expected to be short: but it could expand the centre dedicated to the elderly, or become the seat of the youth council, if it is ever established. Certainly anything would be better than the current ruin.
