"I didn't kill Mario Sedda." Appearing this morning before the panel of judges of the Sassari Juvenile Court, presided over by Guido Vecchione, defendant Emanuele Sircana maintained in his defense that he was not responsible for the murder of the street poet , the 39-year-old from Porto Torres who was tortured and murdered on the night between March 29 and 30, 2021.

During the examination, Sircana, questioned by the public prosecutor, Laura Bassani, accused another young man of the murder who was present that evening five years ago in the green area between Via dell'Erica and Via Sassari, at the entrance to the city. He claimed to have witnessed the argument and the latter's attack on Sedda, hitting him with a stone and stabbing him, taking advantage of his unconsciousness due to alcohol consumption.

"I snatched the knife from his hands and threw it away, then ran away with the trolley case," Sircana said, assisted by lawyer Alessandra Delrio. Also in the courtroom were Pietro Diaz, representing Eleonora Sedda, the victim's sister, and Costantino Biello, representing Sedda's son and ex-wife.

"My client recounted the night of the murder, declaring that he was present, but denying his responsibility," Delrio said. For Diaz, "the defendant's account conflicts with the trial findings and contradicts his previous statements, given in the form of spontaneous statements on other occasions during the trial."

The defendant's partner and mother, both defense witnesses, were heard in court. The hearing was adjourned to September 24th for the completion of the preliminary investigation and the examination of four more defense witnesses. A hearing date for the parties' oral arguments was set for October 22nd.
