And this year too, sea urchins in Sardinia can be caught and served at the table. The law that blocked collection for three years, approved in November 2021 (enacted due to the scarcity of specimens at sea), never really became effective: the law was approved, the exemption was found. Which arrived again this year.

The green light was introduced with an amendment to the budget change (one billion) proposed by the Psd'Az regional councilor Nanni Lancioni, supported by other majority councilors such as Fausto Piga (FdI).

The proposed text states that «by way of derogation from the law (...) starting from 5 December 2023 and until 5 May 2024, the collection, transport, landing and marketing of sea urchins are authorized up to a maximum of four working days per week". Then it will be the council, with its own resolution to be adopted within 90 days, to regulate the matter for the following three years.

The text has undergone a correction proposed by the regional councilor for Agriculture, Valeria Satta: fishing will be authorized not from 5 December but from when the law approved by the regional council is published on Buras.

The uncertainty is therefore only on the date, but it is a matter of days. Certainly in Sardinia this year too it will be possible to fish and eat sea urchins.
