Seizure of hedgehogs in front of Capo Frasca. 1,500 specimens were thrown back into the sea as still alive after being found in the possession of two people.

In recent days, control activities by the Oristano Coast Guard have been intensified, under the coordination of the Operations Department of the Maritime Directorate of Cagliari, along the coasts of competence.

Yesterday the operations room of the Port Authority of Oristano received a report from the military of the Capo Frasca range which referred to the presence of a vessel within the prohibited area with two people on board presumably engaged in the activity sea urchin fishing.

A naval unit was sent to the scene and intercepted the boat containing a professional underwater fisherman and another who acted as a boatman, both from Cagliari. In fact they had collected around 1,500 hedgehogs dividing them into three baskets.

The catch was seized and released back into the sea. The underwater fisherman was fined 2 thousand euros for having carried out professional fishing activities within prohibited areas.
