Alert in Sardinia for strong winds and storm surges.

Thunderstorms and hailstorms have already broken out on the western coasts of the island, but the alarm from the Civil Protection will last at least until Monday morning.

The warning for hydrogeological risk concerns in particular Montevecchio Pischinappiu, Tirso, Gallura and Logudoro.

FORECASTS – From Monday and at least until the central hours of Tuesday, strong winds will blow on the island from west north-west, with reinforcements up to gale or strong gale on the northern coasts and on the ridges.

The winds will be accompanied by a drop in temperatures due to a new mass of fresh air arriving from the Atlantic which, after the storms in the north, will also bring storms to the island in the western sectors, and perhaps even hail.

The Regional Civil Protection recommends «maximum caution if you are driving a car or a motor vehicle as, especially in the presence of strong lateral gusts, they tend to make the vehicle skid; pay particular attention in the most exposed road sections, such as those at the exit of tunnels and on viaducts. It is also advisable to avoid circulation with tarpaulin vehicles and caravans. On coastal areas, strong ventilation is associated with the risk of storm surges, especially if the wind comes perpendicular to the coast. For this reason: be extremely cautious when approaching the coast or traveling along the coastal roads, avoiding stopping on structures exposed to storm surges. Avoid bathing and using boats.'
