From propane gas to methane. This is the gas distribution service conversion planned in Sassari, presented today at Palazzo Ducale by Mayor Giuseppe Mascia and Ruggero Bimbatti, CEO of Medea (Italgas Group). This transition will affect 14,000 households already connected to the network, and will allow users to save up to 11% on their bills, depending on their use, from cooking to heating. The company is investing €9 million to convert the city's 190 km network, and is expected to be completed by June 2026.
"The costs of the intervention and any internal adjustments will be covered by us," Bimbatti states. The customer, who will shortly receive a registered letter with all the necessary explanations, will only have to decide which supplier to sign the contract with, among the five on the free energy distribution market . Bimbatti emphasized the strengths of the transition, beyond savings, namely security and the provision of smart meters that will allow payments based on actual bills "and not estimates." "The transformation will involve the digitalization of the system along with the conversion, while the distribution pipeline will remain unchanged," the CEO states.
"We firmly believe," adds Mascia, "in the energy transition and the need to invest ever more decisively in renewable sources. While we wait for this process to be completed, it is essential to be able to count on a gas network with an increasingly reduced environmental impact and increasingly sustainable costs for users. We welcome the Italgas Group's investment, which will allow Sassari to have a safer, more environmentally friendly, and more cost-effective infrastructure ."
