A mother was sentenced to two years in prison for mistreatment of her minor daughter . This sentence was pronounced today in Sassari court by a panel of judges presided over by Giancosimo Mura, with Sara Pelicci and Stefania Mosca-Angelucci acting as counsel.
According to the charges , the woman, a 39-year-old from a town in the Sassari hinterland , allegedly sent the young woman a long sequence of around 14,000 text messages containing insults and threats, often communicated via social media , including using fake profiles, between 2009 and 2023.
"You're a burden, a wretch who needs to be crushed as soon as possible," is what the woman wrote in one of the messages, referring to her daughter as "Buscetta." The message was marked by constant humiliation, and allegedly included her grandmother and great-grandmother, who were allegedly beaten and threatened on multiple occasions in front of the child, according to the charges.
The messages repeatedly referred to a possible inheritance. "When your grandmother is no longer here," one message reportedly stated, "you'll have nothing left, you'll be a tramp wandering the streets."
The judges also suspended the sentence, but conditioned on a remedial course at an institution to be agreed upon and to begin within 30 days of the final sentence.
The civil plaintiff was represented by the lawyer Graziella Meloni, while the defendant's defense lawyers were Rodolfo Lima and Giancarlo Di Martino. At the end of her closing speech, the prosecutor Maria Paola Asara had requested a five-year prison sentence.
