Sassari, they try to break into a house: the neighbor helps them escape

Fear in the Monte Rosello neighborhood of Sassari.

In recent days, two unknown individuals attempted to break into an apartment on Via Canepa. "They took advantage," a resident reported during a meeting organized by the Insieme per il Quartiere Committee, "of the broken front door to the building."

Once they reached a ground-floor house, they attempted to break the lock. "The rightful owner was inside, alone at the time, and fortunately without her young children."

The woman saw the two men through the peephole and, while they were tampering with the lock, began banging on the door with all her might. The couple, after a moment of surprise, walked away. "One of them calmly walked away, while the other remained outside the car smoking a cigarette, and only after finishing it did he get in the car."

Meanwhile, residents alerted the state police, but by the time they arrived, every last person had left. "Things have gotten worse on the hill recently," say members of the committee chaired by Gianmario Chelo, "with burned cars and incidents of vandalism."
