Two Sassari men, aged 28 and 25, have been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison. Preliminary hearing judge Gian Paolo Piana's decision in a summary trial was heard today in Sassari court regarding a series of robberies that occurred in the city over the course of a week in March of this year. Both were accused of stealing two bottles of spirits from a shop in the historic center in early March, with the 28-year-old punching the owner before fleeing. Shortly thereafter, the pair stole a cell phone from a foreigner, and the older of the two was also responsible for threatening a passerby with a knife.

The 28-year-old was also accused of stealing a clutch bag containing €1,100 from a woman the day after the incidents described. He also assaulted the woman, causing injuries that would take 90 days to heal. A few days later, he also stole a purse from a woman in Sassari. Prosecutor Giovanni Dore, considering the charges proven, requested a sentence of 6 years, 6 months, and 20 days for the older man, and 4 years and 6 months for the 25-year-old. The two defense lawyers, Andrea Piroddi for the 28-year-old and Marco Palmieri for the other, argued that the identification of the two was uncertain and that there were several contradictions in the statements made by some of the injured parties. The judge sentenced the former to 6 years and a €5,000 fine, and the latter to 3 years, 2 months, and 20 days.
