"We are disheartened, stealing from the plates of the poor is unheard of." Don Fabrizio Di Loreto, parish priest of the Latte Dolce church in Sassari, comments on the theft of food intended for needy people on Saturday night.
"This is a serious matter that will prevent us from distributing food to around a hundred families this Wednesday." The shock is great throughout the neighborhood also because, as the religious man reports, reporting the general opinion, "nothing like this has ever been seen in living memory."
The act took place in a warehouse near Via Kennedy from which all the goods were taken away, from sugar paste to biscuits for children.
"We are about to report it to the police station and the forensic team has already been on site." Meanwhile, the parish priest and the other religious people of the parish receive the solidarity, not only in words, from the archbishop of Sassari Monsignor Gianfranco Saba, from the director of the diocesan Caritas Antonello Spanu and from the contact person for the congregation Don Stefano Sperati.
"We want to transform what happened into something positive by activating the solidarity of the population and turning everything into a good thing." The parish priest then declares that they will not be scared or intimidated and are ready to start again "stronger".
Finally, a thought for the perpetrator or perpetrators of the theft: «Why not ask? We always give. They stole from a place where the beneficiaries are the poor."
