The new crematorium of Sassari is in operation. The presentation this morning, in the presence of the councilor for public works Rosanna Arru with the manager Pier Giovanni Melis, the sole person in charge of the procedure Francesco Canu, the officer Antonio Bruno Merella and the contract execution manager Matteo Fraternale as well as some representatives of the group Altair, concessionaire of Sassari Cemetery Services, including the president Paolo Zanghieri.

Illustrated both the completed works and those still in progress and aimed at modernizing and improving the image and functionality of the city cemetery system.

THE PROJECT - “The intervention carried out at the Sassari crematorium - explains the commissioner Arru - has radically changed the structure which is now renewed not only from an architectural point of view, but also from a technological point of view; it is an investment entirely borne by the concessionaire which will allow a high level service offer, respectful of families and the environment ".

A project characterized by modern lines , the installation of a new state- of-the-art system, the reorganization of the interior spaces with great attention to the needs of families and the complete redevelopment of the external areas; the latter are now characterized by pedestrian paths, by the important presence of greenery and by a new parking area that has made it possible to recover a previously degraded area.

There are a total of 40 new parking spaces today at the service of the crematorium, of which 5 are intended for disabled citizens; There are also 7 stalls for motorcycles .

WORKS - The works for the extension of the crematorium temple were approved by the city council in May 2021 and started in July of the same year.

The initial project also underwent some improvements such as the demolition of old deposits serving the cemetery for the construction of a large parking area capable of serving the new crematorium temple and at the same time guaranteeing new access to the monumental part of the cemetery. The variant of the project, with the new parking and access from via Della Mercede, was approved by the municipal council in March 2022. The new interventions added to the cemetery system a parking area of 1,400 square meters and green areas for 600 square meters. There is also an area dedicated to the dispersion of ashes , for those who choose this option provided by law, with a plaque where the name of the deceased will be indicated.

The investment supported by Servizi Cimiteriali Sassari srl was 1,870,000 euros of which 1,450,000.00 for the expansion and strengthening of the crematorium and 420,000 euros for the construction of the new access and parking.

“The Sassari crematorium will finally be able to offer a high-level service - commented the president of the Altair group Paolo Zanghieri - thanks to a series of technological innovations and new environments for users. The reduction of waiting times, the continuity of the service and the better performance of the plant are objectives that we had set ourselves since the beginning of the management and that today we present with satisfaction to the Sassari community ".

OTHER INTERVENTIONS - The cemetery system of Sassari is also affected by other works that should be completed within the next feast of the Saints .

"The overall renovation of the offices and the mortuary and the construction of a comfortable waiting room for users are the main works in progress that will contribute - continued Councilor Arru - to a further significant step in the modernization process of the city cemeteries ".
