This morning, in front of the MasEdu in Sassari, on the corner of Via Pascoli, the Carabinieri intervened after teachers and students of the “Mario Sironi” Academy of Fine Arts found the gates locked.
"The teachers, about nine, and dozens of students hadn't been notified," says Giovanni Sanna, painting teacher and member of the academic council. "Since we couldn't hold classes, we contacted the military."
The Academy's director, Daniele Dore, replied: "It's certainly not a bolt from the blue; MasEdu has accessibility issues."
However, opinions differ on the building's condition. "If the director has stated this, I assume a correction will come from the Metropolitan City, which owns the spaces," Sanna comments.
"There's no evidence of unusability," adds Oscar Solinas, professor of sculpture. "In any case, the director couldn't make such a decision alone, but only with the academic council."
Tensions between the parties are not new. "In January, a petition was collected to report the unbearable cold at MasEdu, and now they want to return," Dore reports.
The teachers have been working at the Art Lab on Via Piga, a new technology and visual arts laboratory, for about three years. "There's no reason to move," Solinas emphasizes.
The director was summoned to the Carabinieri station this afternoon, where he reportedly gave "a long statement." Tensions between the two sides continue and could resurface soon. "We don't know what will happen tomorrow," Sanna and Solinas say, speculating that the gates could be closed again and the Carabinieri might have to be called again.
