He was charged with extortion, but the preliminary hearing judge downgraded the crime to aggravated threats. Today, a court in Sassari heard a summary hearing of the case of a 66-year-old man from Nulvi who, according to the prosecution, failed to pay the €60 fee for registering a rental agreement in July of this year.

When the landlord reminded him, the man replied, "I'll just kill you! I'm not giving you any money!" To make his message more explicit, he then pointed a blank pistol at the man's chest and fired a shot into the ceiling.

Preliminary hearing judge Sergio De Luca sentenced the man, represented by lawyer Marco Palmieri, to six months in prison and ordered him to pay a fine of one thousand euros. The prosecutor was Gianni Caria, while the civil plaintiff was represented by lawyer Anna Maria Santoru.
