Fear struck this morning in Sassari, on Via Rizzeddu, where the intrados of a reinforced brick ceiling collapsed inside the stairwell of a six-story building.

A team of firefighters from the Headquarters responded to the scene, along with the guards, who immediately secured the area and began structural inspections of the building. As a precaution, 15 families residing in the building were evacuated during the operations.

According to an initial reconstruction, the collapse was due to water infiltration which, over time, caused the metal reinforcement to oxidize and the consequent swelling of the concrete parts, leading to their detachment and collapse.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
