Antonio Lorenzo Spano is the new general director of the Sassari Local Health Authority (ASL) 1. The manager, who took office in the last few hours , comes from the Medio Campidano Local Health Authority , where he held the top position since December 31st. Spano, a graduate in economics, has previously held senior positions in the healthcare sector.
These include the roles of administrative director, commissioner, and, since 2022, general director of the Sassari University Hospital. He also served as regional coordinator and member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Federation of Healthcare and Hospital Authorities, which represents the National Health Service (NHS) companies and promotes the development of public management.
"Our priority," states the new director general. "The new manager comes from the Medio Campidano Local Health Authority, where he held the position. "It will be to build a healthcare model based on listening and putting the individual at the center, strengthening the humanization of care and the proximity of services. This path cannot ignore constant and close dialogue with the mayors, the true guardians of the local community, as well as with regional institutions, trade unions, and associations." The program's pillars are based on the implementation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), accelerating the creation of Community Homes and Community Hospitals, reducing waiting lists, and, finally, integrating the hospital and community, continuing to consolidate the service network, and maintaining the strategic collaboration with the AOU and the University of Sassari.
Thanking his predecessor, Spano stated that his task is "not to stop a machine that must race swiftly toward efficiency. To do so, I ask for everyone's support, but especially the company's staff, the tireless driving force behind this change. I extend my thanks to them in advance for their professionalism and dedication, which I am certain they will continue to demonstrate."
