From a gun in a car to an arsenal at home. Local police in Sassari recently arrested a man after stopping him on Via Grazia Deledda for driving the wrong way and hitting four parked cars.
Upon receiving the report, officers responded to the scene, located the reported car, and approached the man, who had meanwhile been inside a business. The suspect appeared to be clearly mentally and physically impaired, and the officers, upon investigating, noticed a gun on the floor mat of the car.
Subsequent checks revealed three more pistols, five gun cases, several switchblades, and numerous rounds of ammunition in the car.
The pistols found in the possession of the man, who had also escaped from house arrest, were originally "blade-shooting" pistols, but had been modified and transformed, in whole or in part, into firearms by turning the barrel on a lathe, making it hollow to allow the bullets to pass through.
The suspect also had ammunition in his pocket, but the police's findings were further enriched by the house search, during which they found a lathe used to modify blank decoy pistols, a cartridge reloading press used to manufacture bullets, numerous cartridges of various calibers and remanufactured ammunition, and .22, .40 S&W, and 12-gauge bullets.
The man was arrested on charges of illegal possession of weapons, manufacturing clandestine weapons, and evading house arrest.
