Sassari, fire at the Scala Erre landfill: the flames triggered by the explosion of flares among the waste

A fire broke out at dawn in the Scala Erre supra-municipal landfill and is still involving firefighters and plant staff.

The fire, which affected module 4, was put out thanks to the intervention of the Sassari firefighters and the procedures activated at the landfill, also using clay sand to limit and suffocate the flames.

The situation is under control and there is no risk of fumes or toxic ash dispersed in the surrounding area.

According to what was verified by the firefighters and the workers working in the landfill, the fire was triggered by the explosion of some flares used by boats, which, violating the rules, were disposed of among unsorted waste.
