The psychiatric report was issued against Sylvester Osiomwan , the 27-year-old native of Nigeria who on February 21 last at the Sassari police station took possession of an agent's ordinance weapon during a struggle and attempted to shoot the policeman and his colleague , before to be immobilized and disarmed.

The opening hearing of the trial for attempted murder was held today before the gup of the Court of Sassari, Giuseppe Grotteria, and the prosecutor Angelo Beccu, who had closed the investigations in record time, asking for and obtaining the judgment from the investigating judge Gian Paolo Piana immediate.

The defense asked for the shortened procedure conditional on a psychiatric report . Request accepted by the GUP, who instructed the psychiatrist Claudia Granieri to examine the accused and draw up a report. The document will be discussed in court in the autumn.

Osiomwan had gone to the police station for an international protection case. But when he learned that his request had been rejected he was furious, attacking the agents : grabbing the gun of one of the two policemen, he tried to fire at them. Fortunately, the gun did not have a shot in the barrel and the agents managed to immobilize and arrest him.

In his pocket, it turned out later, Osiomwan was hiding an 11-centimeter-bladed knife in his pack . Not only that, transferred to the prison of Bancali, he devastated the cell and attacked the prison officers, wounding two of them, then he was assigned to the Uta prison in Cagliari.
