Fear struck this morning on Via Bottego in Sassari. In a building not far from the playground, a large amount of debris fell down the stairwell. The steps were covered in pieces of brick that had suddenly fallen from the ceiling.

The firefighters and local police arrived immediately on the scene and are currently assessing the condition of the building, which houses six families. Just this week, the regionally funded ordinary and extraordinary maintenance work for several buildings within the area was completed on the same street.

The operation's purpose, it was explained, "is to restore the buildings' safety and functionality, eliminating deterioration affecting structures, roofs, and common areas, and restoring a greater level of architectural uniformity and urban decorum, thus improving the overall image of the building complex and the quality of life for residents."
