Sardinia is burning: houses evacuated and tens of hectares of land in smoke

In the Sassari area, where a real battle was triggered to tame a vast fire that broke out at the gates of Olmedo, between Tottubella and the Nuraghe Bonassai, which also forced the local police command of Sassari to close a section of the Statale 291 for the purpose precautionary. The flames attacked a country house and some houses were evacuated . The fire, blown by the wind, also reached the area of Alghero, covering a total of about sixty hectares of territory and threatening the San Marco industrial area .

“After the intervention of two Canadair, two helicopters and ground crews, the fire is being extinguished, avoiding the risk of it reaching the industrial area of San Marco”, explains the mayor of Alghero Mario Conoci . "The damage certainly suffered by some farms - adds Conoci - will be assessed in the next few days, but it is important that there is no damage to people ".

Finally fear in Tortolì , for a fire that, which broke out near the cemetery and a resale of building material, came dangerously close to the inhabited center, then pushed due to the wind towards the Bari Sardo area .
