Another scorching day for Sardinia, not only because of the summer temperatures. There were 19 fires registered today in different areas of the Island, three of which required the urgent intervention of the regional firefighting fleet's aircraft.

The largest, at least for now, broke out in the early afternoon in the countryside of Nurri, in the locality of C. Carrus. The flames attacked about seven hectares of woodland, wooded pasture and Mediterranean scrub, fueled by the wind and high temperatures.

To contain the advance of the fire, a massive deployment was necessary: two regional helicopters, including the heavy Superpuma from Fenosu, with the forest rangers airlifted on board, and the personnel of the Cfva station in Isili. On the ground, teams of volunteers from Isili and Orroli, Fo.Re.STAS men from Isili and Villanovatulo and the Fire Brigade from Mandas operated. The operations are still ongoing and the situation remains under strict surveillance.

Also in the afternoon, another front opened in Pabillonis, in the Pabillonis station area, where a fire affected several hectares of agricultural land. The flames, fueled by dry brushwood, were tackled by the Cfva helicopter of Pula and by a specialized team from the 'Centro Urbano' service of Fo.Re.STAS of Guspini. Even in this case, the fire has not yet been completely extinguished and containment activities by foresters continue.

The emergency in Iglesias, where the flames attacked the area of Su Nuraghe 'e Pira, has instead been resolved. The fire, which burned pastures and scrubland on several hectares, was put out thanks to the timely intervention of the Forestry Corps of the Carbonia Station, supported by a helicopter that took off from the Cfva base in Pula and the Nipaf in Iglesias. On the ground, three teams of volunteers from Carbonia, Villamassargia and Iglesias operated, together with the Fire Brigade of Carbonia and other law enforcement agencies. The operations ended around 2 pm.
