Yet another busy day for Sardinia's firefighting system: 14 fires were recorded on the island today, two of which required the intervention of the regional fleet's aircraft.
The first fire broke out in the Sant'Andrea Frius area, in the Bruncu Ingurtosu area . The Dolianova Forestry Corps coordinated the operation, with the support of the Senorbì and San Nicolò Gerrei units, the Cagliari GAUF (Ground Fire Brigade) unit, and two helicopters from the Villasalto and Pula bases. Forestry teams, civil defense volunteers, and firefighters were also on site.
According to initial reports, the fire – apparently caused by negligence – was started by the burning of several vehicles involved in the failed attack on an armored van along State Road 387. The flames affected a reforestation of pine and eucalyptus trees, devastating approximately 2,500 square meters of surface.
The second fire occurred in Sagama, near Nuraghe Mulineddu. The work here was particularly complex: the wind, first sirocco and then mistral, favored the spread of the flames and caused a dangerous re-ignition that afternoon.
The Bosa Forestry Corps is in action, supported by the Oristano GAUF, light helicopters, and the Fenosu Super Puma. The intervention of specialized personnel was decisive, establishing a counterfire and containing the fire's advance. Numerous Forestas teams, Barracelli, volunteers, and firefighters were also on the scene.
The toll is heavy: approximately 30 hectares of wooded pastures and an olive grove went up in smoke.
